What is the New Medicine Service?
This is a free NHS service delivered by our pharmacists in Manchester or via phone. It’s available for certain medicines and health conditions, and it’s designed to help you get the most from your new medicine. A pharmacist will call you to run through any questions you have about your new prescription, advise on any side effects, and refer you to the doctor if they decide it needs reviewing.
How it works
These steps outline what to expect when you’re prescribed a medicine that’s eligible for the New Medicine Service
- We will invite you to book an appointment when we’ve sent you a new medicine that qualifies you to use this service
- We will discuss any questions you might have about your medicine. Our pharmacist will give you a call on your chosen day and time.
- Our pharmacists will call you again after 2 weeks of the initial consultation to make sure everything is ok.
- Our pharmacists will refer you to a GP if they think your medicine needs reviewing.
